Every now and then, you need a change. After around 25 years of teaching in schools and teaching our own four kids to drive, I am taking my experience to a new setting. Driver education is an area in our communities that needs instructors whose goals extend beyond passing the test to producing drivers with a clear priority for safety.

The statistics are chilling: Australia sees almost 1200 fatalities and 40 000 serious injuries, annually, related to road use. Many seriously injured people never fully recover and are unable to resume normal work or relationships. Many struggle with chronic pain following their accidents.

While we typically think of accidents as events that happen by chance or are unintentional, we should really think of them as preventable. At Roadwise, students are taught to be proficient in the practical aspects of driving. More importantly, they are trained to understand that green lights; seat belts; having right of way or airbags cannot guarantee their safety. Understanding principles of safety and employing a handful of simple strategies enables our students to become truly Roadwise.
